Day One 2/1/2011

I started this blog to follow my journey with Willette Designs "Joy of Love" class. Looking back at the past few years I thought it was just what I needed. The class is designed to help you take better pictures while documenting a loved one. For me, this is not just about taking better pictures, but it is about enjoying the little moments with my son Aidan. You see, I am a single parent. My son Aidan is now two and half years old. When Aidan was six months old his father, my ex-husband, decided he made a "mistake" and was not ready for a wife, child, dog, and white picket fence. He packed a bag and walked out (Literally). We do not hear from him much (maybe three times a year via text if that). The moment he walked out the front door our lives forever changed. I am not complaining about struggles in fact I am grateful for what the situation has brought to us. I was able to go back to school, start a mini photography business to help pay the bills while in school, and moved closer to family. I am grateful for everything! The reason that I thought this class was just what I needed is because being a single parent presents lots of challenges. I feel as if I am loosing that sweet time with my boy. He is growing up so fast and between school, work, laundry, dinner, bath and bedtime, I don't find myself spending "time" with Aidan. I will give Aidan some paints and paper, but how often do I actually sit and paint with him...not often. There is always something else that "needs" to be done. This project is going to help me spent time with Aidan. Get on the floor and play, read books (and not just at bedtime), and find out more about him. There is not much else in this world that is as important as time with my son. I am going to find that time this month and keep it in our daily lives forever.

Day One: Photograph Something Aidan Does:

Aidan thinks he is a Super Hero! He refers to himself as "Super Aidan"! He will run around the house (and yes jump on the bed the moment he thinks I am not watching) screaming "Super Aidan to the rescue!" On a side note: Aidan has been saying rescue forever, probably close to a year now, it was not until November that I actually figured out what he was saying. In November he added in "Super Aidan". I was VERY thankful that I figured it out AND that he put it in a sentence. You see, before he did that it just sounded like he was saying f*** You!! I did not think he had ever heard that term before, but you can imagine the looks I would get when we where out and about and he would shout it out! Anyway here are some pictures of my "Super Aidan" jumping on the bed.

Enjoying it before getting caught:

Getting Caught Jumping on the bed:

You can tell he is tired when he sits still!

Thank you for checking out my Day One, I hope you will follow me through this journey!

  1. Wow, you are an inspiring woman with one adorable son! You should be very proud of yourself, I have 3 of my own and couldn't imagine doing it solo.

Great pictures. He's so adorable and I just love the innocence of these shots. They have to just melt your heart.

Even when my son is sleepy he still doesn't sit still! Lucky you!

  6. I love this post! It sounds like you have such a great attitude about life and situations that present themselves. I often find that it is not the situations themselves that make us who we are but how we respond to them. You have a tough job and I can't wait to follow your journey this month! I, too, have a difficult time putting "play" before chores and this challenge will be refreshing! :) Bless you!
